Hedda Mae

February 19, 2019
Bergen’s newest pop starlet, Hedda Mae spins tales of every day life into highly infectious, danceable pop on her debut EP ‘Introducing: Hedda Mae’ out now.

With all the moves, hooks and contagious personality of 21st century pop star, Hedda Mae is a larger than life character. The pop lineage is undeniable; Robyn, Nile Rogers, The B-52s, disco-era Motown and even Kylie. With producer Benjamin Giørtz, Hedda’s EP distills a winning combination of self-deprecation and uncompromising attitude, allied to unabashed pop.

Inspired by the lifting of the Norwegian lockdown, Hedda Mae’s most recent video celebrated the great outdoors, the desire to dance and the endurance of friendship, soundtracked by the furious disco-pop of the EP opener Madness.  With the Scandi-Jackson 5 reboot Too Good To Be True, the 80s funk of Pride Before a Fall and summer mixtape must have What Do You Want From Me, her debut EP is an ambitious collection. It closes with new track Carry On, yet another side-step in style with electric-piano, synthesised bass and a hands aloft chorus in heartfelt celebration of companionship.

It is a sure sign of strength for a pop artist to be able to adopt new styles and push their sound in new directions, while still sounding distinctly like themselves. It’s a talent Hedda Mae displays in abundance in the early days of her career and across the 6 tracks that make this EP.
