Norwegian pair Love Dance have been releasing music on and off with frustrating inconsistency for the past decade, but finally appear ready to release a new album later this year.
The first track to be taken from that forthcoming record by Kristopher Straus and Eirik Vestrheim is the ’80s-tinged “All The Time”.
It’s hard not to thing of New Order and 808 State, sweaty clubs and Ecstasy, when the insistent beat immediately kicks in. It’s gloriously nostaligic, and when the flat vocals join the beats there’s a feeling of being transported to straight to Manchester’s Hacienda.
The programmed beats are crisp, the synths appropriately woozy and Straus’ voice is filled with regret and missed opportunities. To top it all off, there’s a heavenly outro featuring a choir of child-like voices which lifts “All The Time” away from being a simple retro pastiche and iinto the realms of brilliance.
